The Lewis' made their first trip of what will be many to the Peoria Zoo. It's hoped that the family pass will bring many happy visits for Abie and Benjamin who get so excited with animals! The Zoo just finished the expansion, "Africa." Truly amazing! Taylor and Jacqie were quite impressed with the overall layout of the new part of the zoo. It was one big central area but divided up for the animals but without the actual cages. So open and "natural" The lions come right up to you to pet.

Okay, so there is a thick window barrier. But then the female came trotting over and took a swipe at Benjamin, making Taylor a bit nervous - yes, Taylor! As she then continued to pounce the window Taylor could feel the vibrations making him a bit more nervous...

then she decided to roll over and have fun playing with him. Talk about close encounter! Benjamin probably didn't help with all his "cries" of excitement through it all.

Can you even tell that to the right of the walk is not "zoo" and to the left is?

All in all, the weather was beautiful and everyone had a good time. Benjamin was a bit pre-occupied with pulling the wagon the entire time - a bit too much! And Abie offered to carry the backpack.....then decided it was "too heafy."

Taking in the scenery with some snacks!

We love a good zoo!
Sounds like yours is a fun place to visit.
Holy cow!! That is amazing. I would be a bit nervous too, thinking a lion was going to use my child as a play toy.

So fun! We love the zoo, but we go in the fall/spring because it's just too hot here in the summer. Looks like a fun day!
That lion would freak me out! She must have just thought Ben was as cute a cub as any.
Looks like a fun day for everyone! The kids look so cute!
The kids are growing up so fast. We hope we get to see you this summer. Tiffany
